I recently faced the same situation and went with the 35D for all of the reasons that John mentioned. I also noticed that the 25D, 29D, and 33D all appear to be the same tractor with different engines. The displacement on the 29D and 33D is the same and the 33D is rated at 2800 rpm while the 29D is rated at 2600 rpm. Besides I really wanted a cup holder.

GOK or God Only Knows. Probably because of visual effects. If the bucket is painted a different color it probably makes the tractor look larger. Or maybe they just ran out of green paint.

Scott, that is an excellent price from what I have been able to research. I ended up with the same deal except I got turfs. Total price was 18,737. Considering that I will be doing my own pickup and delivery I would say that the numbers are about equal.

I just purchased a TC29D with turf tires for $13,588. The 7308 loader with HD 60" bucket was $2,926. Total price was $16,514 and that included welding chain hooks on the bucket. Of course that price does not include tax. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I visited a second local dealer and he is much more in line with what the price should be. He still may be about $200 high but I liked the guy. I will probably buy the tractor from him. My confusion over the hydro issue was caused by the fact that the TC29D has a clutch pedal. Turns out that the clutch is only used to engage and disengage the pto's. The only real mystery in the TC29D design is why they put the turn brakes on the same side as the hydro pedal. I not only wonder what they were thinking but why they wasted the money to install such an obviously unusable control.

WH Bob I have the same setup except I have turf tires. My 4100 does the same thing. I think it is probably because the loader adds a lot of weight to the front wheels without any 3 pt. ballast. The power steering pump probably just doesn't have enough power to turn the front wheels with that much weight on them. It steers fine when you are moving but when you are sitting still without any ballast on the 3 pt. the steering does not work.

Well the JD dealer called today and said he couldn't find anything wrong with the 4100. He claims it is normal behavior for the thing to cough and gag in cold weather. Perhaps it is just the nature of the beast. If that is the case, I will buy a different brand of beast next time.

I called the JD customer service 800 number today. It was easy to operate, fast, and the service rep. was polite. After explaining the problem, arrangments were made for me to take the tractor to another dealership for repairs. By the way, the new dealership said "bull ----" to the idea of rebuilding injectors on a new tractor that is under warranty. The most promising result of the call is that the service rep. gives their name, a "file number" for reference, and instructions to call back as the repair progresses. I will reserve my judgment until after the repair is complete.

Just when you thought there was enough said about this, here I am. I have been watching this drama unfold on the news. I have yet to see a tractor at either candidate's home. I don't think either one of them could properly operate a tractor though I am certain they would both try if it would give them the winning vote. Nuff said.

Robert, is that tractor a 655 instead of a 644? I have never heard of a 644 and the 5 and 4 keys are kinda close together.

Art's price is a bit on the high side for the south central Michigan area. The Cub Lo-Boy does not bring as much money as the Farmall Cub. A nicely restored Farmall Cub could bring as much as $2500 to $3500 here. I've been watching the auctions lately because I want a Farmall Cub. I hope this helps you.

I experienced some issues with the JD4100 that I bought in 1999. I researched Michigan's Lemon Law and learned that tractors are not covered. If your state has a Lemon Law you may want to read it to see if your situation is covered. IMHO it sounds like your dealer is trying to fix things for you. Maybe your problems will eventually be resolved. Good luck.

Jerry, I have a JD4100 with FEL. I use a 16' dual axle trailer with electric brakes. I haul it with a full size 4wd pickup. I have driven it on all types of roads without a problem. I suspect the TC21 is about the same size as the JD4100. I could have went with a 14' trailer but wanted the extra capacity to carry the ballast box, tiller, and mower deck. Besides, it may be useful if I buy a larger tractor. I am very happy I have the trailer brakes. They were somewhat of a project to install but well worth the time and effort.

I like the new window. It is certainly faster. I am running Netscape 4.7. The only small problem I have noted is that the link to messages I have already read no longer changes color. Not much of a problem as long as my memory holds out. It is great to be able to see the post you are replying to.

JD makes a 4100N that may be suitable for your purposes. Just a suggestion, hope it helps. I will try to attach the link to the web site.

DFB described the 4100 pto braking action very well. The only thing that I have noted that is different is the mid pto action. The mid pto on my 4100 does not seem to have the braking action that the rear pto has. This is probably to prevent the mid mount mower deck comming to a screaching halt. The rear pto does cause the rototiller to stop abruptly when I turn off the pto switch. This may not be of much value to you because the 4300 probably has a different set up.

I don't know much about the price of a JD850 in poor condition as you are describing. I do know that the 850 is a gear tractor vs. an 855 hydrostatic transmission. 2wd is a less than desireable trait in compact utility tractors.
Considering the condition of the tractor, gear drive and condition of the impliments I would not make the purchase at that price. I would not make that purchase.

I'm probably jumping into a mess but here goes. I don't know what state you live in but Michigan's tax law basically says that if you live in Michigan you must pay sales tax to Michigan regardless of where you buy it from if you were in Michigan at the time of purchase. If you buy something from a state other than Michigan there is a tax form that is supposed to be filled out and you are supposed to pay the Michigan sales tax. I suspect other states feel the same way. In practice I would guess that few private citizens comply with this sales tax law.
